How Many Bundles Do I Need? The Ultimate Guide for a Full & Flawless Install

One of the most common questions we get at Thee Slay Way is: "How many bundles should I buy?" There’s nothing worse than sitting in your stylist's chair and realizing you’re one bundle short of the look you dreamed of.

The truth is, the answer depends on three things: Length, Texture, and the Lace you’re using. Here is the "Slay Way" cheat sheet to help you checkout with confidence.

1. The Length Rule

The longer the hair, the shorter the weft. This is a golden rule in the hair industry. Because each bundle weighs about 100g, a 30-inch bundle will have a much shorter track than a 12-inch bundle.

  • 12” – 16”: 2 Bundles are usually enough for a natural look.

  • 18” – 22”: 3 Bundles is the "sweet spot" for standard fullness.

  • 24” – 30”: 4 Bundles are highly recommended to ensure your ends don't look thin.

2. Texture Matters

Curly hair (like our Deep Wave or Water Wave) naturally looks fuller than Bone Straight hair. If you love a sleek, straight look but want it to look "celebrity thick," always add an extra bundle. If you’re rocking curls, you can often get away with one less.

3. Frontal vs. Closure

  • With a Closure: You need more hair because the closure only covers a small portion of the top (4x4 or 5x5). We recommend 3-4 bundles.

  • With a Frontal: Since the frontal covers you from ear-to-ear (13x4 or 13x6), you have less "head space" to fill. You can usually achieve a full look with 2-3 bundles.

Pro Tip: If you are buying lengths over 26 inches, always buy 4 bundles. Trust us—you’ll thank us later when your hair is bouncing and full from root to tip!
